In Dog Years I'm Dead: Living with ALS started as a blog that Judith Kleck began writing after her diagnosis. She wrote 43 entries and had over 1200 followers when she stopped writing. The blog has since been taken down. Her husband, Joseph Powell, edited the blog and added many of her poems, some of which dealt directly with A.L.S. The blog's voice is witty and courageous, and speaks to some of the assumptions people make about someone whose speech is impaired, but her mind is not! There are meditations on the disease, mortality, disability, love, and her last visit to Paris and Patmos.

A book filled with satirical, maniacal, funny, sad, truthful, realistical, philanthropical, happy, angry and just flat out weird poems & what some would call prose.

Narrative Medicine is the practice of trying to bring healing to those stories that shape so much of our understanding, behavior, and relationships. But what that healing looks like can be so different for each person and each story. These are just some examples of my own efforts in this work for myself that will hopefully inspire others to do this work as well.

a reincarnation of my flesh and blood on paper, not your nightlight details the relationships i’ve been through, the pain i’ve overcome and the vast love i’ve felt during this little life of mine. i dedicate this publishing to everyone who reads it and relates to my journey and my struggles. i see you and i feel you too. you are not alone.

These poems are primarily elegies, which hopefully leave one with a feeling of solace and spiritual transcendence as well.

"The Weathering of Strawberry Ben" is a journey of bereavement from demonic dependencies to choking desperation and from helpless sadness to despairing soul-thievery. The story also expresses one's abrupt awakening to a seemingly strange new life of unconditional love and radical forgiveness. Paradoxical circumstances leave one, unashamedly, wanting more. Would Strawberry Ben kill himself?
